Itinerary
Day 1: Nazareth, Capernaum and Sea of Galilee
Embarking on this enchanting tour, our journey commences with a scenic drive along the coastal road, veering towards the historic Valley of Armageddon, offering a panoramic view of Megiddo. As we traverse the captivating landscape, Mt. Precipice comes into view, guiding us to the picturesque town of Nazareth. Here, we explore the treasures of the Church of Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph, each exuding its unique charm. Continuing our odyssey towards the idyllic Sea of Galilee, we traverse Cana, the site where Christ performed the miraculous transformation of water into wine. Gazing at the distant Mt. of Beatitudes, where the Sermon on the Mount unfolded, we make a poignant stop in Capernaum, nestled along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Our journey unfolds further in Tabgha, where the Roman Catholic Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes awaits exploration. Passing by Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee’s edge, we pause at Yardenit, a potential baptismal site along the River Jordan, reminiscent of John’s baptism of Jesus. As we gracefully conclude our expedition, we traverse the captivating Mt. Tabor, where the Transfiguration unfolded, marking the perfect conclusion to this enriching and memorable journey.
Day 2: Jerusalem Old and New
We embark on an awe-inspiring journey, capturing the breathtaking panoramic views of Jerusalem from the summit of Mount Scopus. Descending the mount, we traverse past the biblical Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations, and the historical Kidron Valley, home to monumental Jewish tombs. Venturing into the Jewish Quarter, we marvel at the Cardo, an ancient Byzantine-era main street that echoes the city’s rich history. Our pilgrimage includes a poignant stop at the Western Wall, where we place heartfelt prayer notes within the timeless stones. Following the path of the Via Dolorosa, we arrive at the magnificent Church of the Holy Sepulchre, immersing ourselves in the profound significance of Christ’s crucifixion and burial tomb. After a refreshing lunch break and a leisurely stroll through the Old City bazaar, we transition to the modern allure of new Jerusalem. Our route through the contemporary city leads us to the poignant Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, where authentic artifacts, original documents, evocative photos, and poignant video testimonials of Holocaust survivors poignantly recount this crucial chapter in history.
Day 3: Masada and the Dead Sea
Embarking on a captivating journey through southern Israel, our tour winds its way through the picturesque Judean Hills, offering glimpses of the historic Inn of the Good Samaritan. Pausing at sea level for a truly unforgettable photo opportunity, we then venture even further below sea level, immersing ourselves in the mesmerizing landscape leading to the world-renowned Dead Sea. Our initial stop unfolds at Masada, where a cable car ride elevates us to the summit plateau, revealing the remnants of Herod’s remarkable 2,055-year-old palace fortress. Marveling at the well-preserved structures, including palaces and a bathhouse, we proceed to explore the desert oasis of Ein Gedi and Qumran, the site where the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The remainder of the day is dedicated to relaxation on the shores of the Dead Sea, where you can experience the natural buoyancy of its saline-rich waters, 8.6 times saltier than the ocean. Indulge in the therapeutic benefits of the Dead Sea mud as a rejuvenating skin mask, all while basking in the warm embrace of the glorious Dead Sea sun.
Day 4: Jerusalem In the Footsteps of Jesus
Embarking on this sacred journey, we trace the footsteps of Jesus on the Mount of Olives, immersing ourselves in the profound spirituality of the Church of the Ascension, where Christ ascended to heaven, and the nearby Church of the Pater Noster, where he imparted the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples. Our pilgrimage unfolds with a poignant visit to Dominus Flevit, the very spot where Jesus gazed upon Jerusalem with tears, foreseeing its impending destruction. The reverent exploration continues as we delve into the Church of All Nations and the adjacent Garden of Gethsemane, the solemn ground where Jesus faced his arrest on the eve of his crucifixion. Venturing into the Old City, our path leads us to the historic Pools of Bethesda, followed by halts at the Church of Saint Anne and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. The profoundness of the journey intensifies as we walk the Via Dolorosa to reach the 3rd Station of the Cross, retracing the path Jesus trod while carrying his cross towards the crucifixion site on Calvary. It’s important to note that this unforgettable expedition spans over 5 miles in the hilly terrain of the city, a consideration for those with potential challenges in walking longer distances.
Day 5: Bethlehem, Jericho and Qasr el Yahud
Embark on a captivating journey with the Bethlehem and Jericho tour, traversing the historic path that leads you past the Inn of the Good Samaritan and descending beneath sea level to explore the ancient city of Jericho. In Jericho, marvel at the sycamore tree climbed by Zacchaeus in his quest for a glimpse of Jesus, and reflect on the biblical account of Joshua’s triumphant march around the city walls. Leaving Jericho, the tour takes you to the Mount of Temptation and Qasr al-Yahud on the Jordan River, the sacred site where John baptized Jesus. Moving forward, immerse yourself in the timeless aura of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus over 2,000 years ago. Pausing in Manger Square, step inside the revered Church of the Nativity, housing the Holy Grotto where the nativity unfolded. The journey extends to the adjacent Church of St. Catherine, revealing subterranean caves with ancient tombs and shrines. Enrich your experience as the tour passes through Shepherds Field, culminating in a return to Jerusalem, leaving you with cherished memories of this spiritual odyssey.
