Venturing into the Jewish Quarter, we explore the Cardo, a main street dating back to the Byzantine era. Our journey pauses at the sacred Western Wall, where we engage in the poignant tradition of placing a prayer note within the ancient stones. Traversing a segment of the Via Dolorosa, we arrive at the magnificent Church of the Holy Sepulchre, witnessing the significant sites of Christ’s crucifixion and burial tomb. Following a leisurely lunch and a stroll through the bustling Old City bazaar, we transition to modern Jerusalem, traversing the contemporary cityscape to reach the impactful Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. The museum’s compelling exhibits feature authentic artifacts, original documents, photos, and video testimonials that poignantly convey the experiences of Holocaust survivors.
Day 2: City of David and Underground Jerusalem
Embark on a captivating journey through time on this tour as we unveil the original Jerusalem settlement, constructed over 3,000 years ago and now concealed beneath the earth’s surface. Our adventure commences with a panoramic view of Jerusalem from Mount Scopus, offering a breathtaking perspective of an ancient Jewish cemetery, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Old City. Traverse the Kidron Valley, adorned with ancient Jewish tombs, and enter the Old City through the historic Zion Gate. Stroll through the vibrant Armenian Quarter, showcasing its vividly colored ceramics, before delving into the Old City’s Jewish Quarter. Here, marvel at the Byzantine-era Cardo and the iconic Western Wall, where we pause to place a heartfelt prayer note. Exiting the Old City through the Dung Gate, our journey continues underground to the 3,000-year-old City of David. Explore ancient rock-hewn tunnels that once channeled water to the city from the Spring of Gihon. Notably, this unforgettable tour spans over 5 miles in a hilly city area, making it essential to consider the physical demands, as it may not be suitable for those with difficulty walking long distances.
Day 3: Masada and the Dead Sea
Embark on an unforgettable journey through southern Israel, traversing the picturesque Judean Hills and passing by the historic Inn of the Good Samaritan. At sea level, we pause for a mesmerizing photo opportunity before descending even further, venturing below sea level to the renowned Dead Sea. Our initial stop brings us to the awe-inspiring Masada, where a cable car whisks us to the plateau summit, offering a glimpse into the remains of Herod’s ancient palace fortress, standing proud for over 2,000 years. Marvel at the remarkable structures, including palaces and a bathhouse. Continuing our expedition, we pass by the desert oasis of Ein Gedi and Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The Banias, adorned with lush forests, meandering streams, and enchanting waterfalls, is a picturesque haven often likened to the legendary Garden of Eden. Ascend to Kal’at Nimrod, a 13th-century fortress crowning a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Golan.
