Itinerary
Day 1: Jerusalem Old and New
Embarking on our journey, we savor the breathtaking panoramic views of Jerusalem from the pinnacle of Mount Scopus. Descending from the mount, we traverse the significant landmarks of the biblical Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations, and the Kidron Valley, which cradles monumental Jewish tombs. In the heart of the Jewish Quarter, the ancient Cardo unfolds its historical significance as the Byzantine-era main street of Jerusalem. A poignant pause at the sacred Western Wall allows us to place a heartfelt prayer note within the ancient stones. Following the path of the Via Dolorosa, our exploration leads us to the awe-inspiring Church of the Holy Sepulchre, revealing the sites of Christ’s crucifixion and burial tomb. Following a rejuvenating lunch break and a stroll through the vibrant Old City bazaar, our journey continues to the contemporary landscape of new Jerusalem. Cruising through the modern city, we arrive at the poignant Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, where authentic artifacts, original documents, and compelling testimonials of Holocaust survivors unveil a powerful narrative, enriching our understanding of history.
Day 2: City of David and Underground Jerusalem
Embark on a captivating journey as we unveil the ancient Jerusalem settlement, dating back over 3,000 years and now concealed beneath the earth. Our exploration commences with a panoramic view of Jerusalem from Mount Scopus, where the enchanting sights include an ancient Jewish cemetery, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Old City. Traverse the Kidron Valley to discover ancient Jewish tombs before entering the Old City through the Zion Gate. Stroll through the vibrant Armenian Quarter adorned with brightly colored ceramics, and delve into the Old City’s Jewish Quarter, featuring the Byzantine-era Cardo and the iconic Western Wall. Take a poignant pause to place a prayer note in the Wall before exiting through the Dung Gate. The adventure continues underground, guiding you to the 3,000-year-old City of David, where ancient tunnels carved from rock once brought water to the city from the Spring of Gihon. A note of caution: this unforgettable tour covers over 5 miles in a hilly city area, which may pose challenges for those with difficulty walking long distances. However, every step is a portal to history and discovery.
Day 3: Jerusalem In the Footsteps of Jesus
Embark on a spiritual journey as we trace the footsteps of Jesus on the revered Mount of Olives, where we explore the poignant sites of the Church of the Ascension, commemorating Christ’s ascension to heaven, and the nearby Church of the Pater Noster, echoing the teachings of the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples. Witness the somber beauty of Dominus Flevit, the spot where Jesus gazed upon Jerusalem and wept, foreseeing its impending destruction. Our pilgrimage continues with a visit to the Church of All Nations and the adjacent Garden of Gethsemane, the poignant setting of Jesus’ arrest on the eve of his crucifixion. We then delve into the historical tapestry of the Old City, pausing at the Church of Saint Anne and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. The journey proceeds to the 3rd Station of the Cross on Via Dolorosa, retracing the path Jesus walked, burdened with his cross, towards the crucifixion site on Calvary. It’s essential to note that this unforgettable odyssey spans over 5 miles in a hilly urban landscape, a consideration for those with mobility challenges. Your spiritual exploration promises to be as enlightening as it is physically immersive, ensuring a memorable and reflective experience.
