Itinerary
Day 1: Jerusalem and the Dead Sea
Embarking from Mount Scopus, our journey unfolds with breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across Jerusalem. From this vantage point, the Old City walls, Temple Mount, and the Dome of the Rock come into view, creating a mesmerizing tableau. Traversing through the significant sites, we pass by the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations, and the Kidron Valley before entering the Old City through the venerable Zion Gate. Within the Jewish Quarter, the excavated Byzantine Cardo invites exploration, leading us to the revered Wailing Wall. Continuing our path, we tread the historic Via Dolorosa, retracing the steps of Jesus on his way to Calvary. Our pilgrimage culminates at the sacred Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where we stand witness to the very place of Christ’s crucifixion and burial. Following a satisfying lunch within the Old City, we meander through its bustling market, bidding Jerusalem farewell. Descending below sea level, our expedition takes us to the enchanting shores of the Dead Sea. Here, a beautiful Dead Sea beach beckons, offering a tranquil space to float in the buoyant waters and indulge in a rejuvenating natural facial with the renowned black Dead Sea mud.
Day 2: City of David and Underground Jerusalem
Embark on a captivating journey as we unveil the ancient Jerusalem settlement, constructed over 3,000 years ago and now concealed beneath the earth’s surface. Our exploration commences with a panoramic view of Jerusalem from Mount Scopus, where the ancient Jewish cemetery, Garden of Gethsemane, and the Old City sprawl below. Traverse the Kidron Valley, marveling at its ancient Jewish tombs, and enter the Old City through the Zion Gate. Wander through the vibrant Armenian Quarter, adorned with brightly colored ceramics, and delve into the Jewish Quarter, home to the Byzantine-era Cardo and the iconic Western Wall, where we pause to leave a prayer note. Exiting the Old City via the Dung Gate, the journey descends underground into the 3,000-year-old City of David, revealing ancient rock-hewn tunnels that once channeled water from the Spring of Gihon. It’s worth noting that this unforgettable adventure spans over 5 miles in a hilly city terrain, potentially posing challenges for those with difficulty walking long distances.
Day 3: Jerusalem In the Footsteps of Jesus
Embarking on a journey that mirrors the sacred steps of Jesus on the Mount of Olives, our expedition includes a visit to the Church of the Ascension, the very site where Christ ascended to heaven. Adjacent to this, we explore the Church of the Pater Noster, where Jesus imparted the profound teachings of the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples. The poignant Dominus Flevit awaits us, a place where Jesus gazed upon Jerusalem with a heavy heart, foreseeing its impending destruction. Our pilgrimage continues to the Church of all Nations and the nearby Garden of Gethsemane, the solemn grounds where Jesus faced arrest on the eve of his crucifixion. Further enriching our spiritual exploration, we gaze upon the historic Pools of Bethesda before venturing into the Old City. Stops at the Church of Saint Anne and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion offer moments of reflection. As we traverse the Via Dolorosa, we reach the 3rd Station of the Cross, retracing the path Jesus took, bearing his cross towards the crucifixion on Calvary. It’s essential to note that this indelible tour spans over 5 miles in a hilly urban setting, making it less suitable for those with challenges walking extended distances.
