Highlights
Full description
Embark on a half-day Bethlehem tour through the picturesque Judean Hills, retracing the path of Mary and Joseph's journey over 2,000 years ago. Known as the City of David, Bethlehem is the hometown of King David's father. Arriving at Manger Square, you'll discover a place where Christians worldwide gather each Christmas Eve to celebrate the nativity. The square is surrounded by significant landmarks, including the Palestinian Peace Center, the Mosque of Omar, and the Church of the Nativity.
Inside the Church of the Nativity, built around the birthplace of Christ in the 4th century, you'll witness its remarkable history. Although expanded in the 6th century, parts of the original mosaic floor are still preserved. The Grotto of the Nativity features a silver star on the floor marking the very spot where Christ was born. Continuing the tour, you'll visit the 1882-built Church of St. Catherine. Below the church, ancient rock-hewn chambers reveal the Chapel of the Innocent, St. Joseph's Chapel, and the cave where St. Jerome translated the Bible from Hebrew to Latin.
On the return journey to Jerusalem, you'll pass by Shepherds Field, where shepherds watched over their flocks on that first Christmas Eve. This site is now commemorated by the Church of All Angels, designed by Barluzzi. The tour concludes with a drive past the Field of Ruth, a place of significance in the story of Ruth and Boaz.
