History of The First Station.

The First Station Jerusalem opened in 1892, after the completion of the railway that traveled from Jaffa to Jerusalem via Nahal Sorek and the Valley of Rephaim. The inauguration was attended by many dignitaries, Jews and Arabs alike, including the reviver of Hebrew – Eliezer Ben Yehuda. It was at this ceremony that the literal name for this train – horse of steel – was given as the word Rakevet did not yet exist.
