Mitzpe Ramon

Mitzpe Ramon is a local council in the Negev desert, and it contains the spectacular lookout of the world’s largest erosion cirque, known as the Makhtesh Ramon (Ramon Crater). The small council contains only a bit more than 5,000 people, and most business are closed on the weekend.

Things To Do

Although the council is pretty small and pretty old the area has a lot to offer

Ramon Lookout: The first things on our list and one of the biggest breathtaking sights in Israel is the Ramon lookout. The lookout is situated on the northern ridge at an elevation of 860 meters (2,800 feet) overlooking the world’s largest erosion cirque. If you are planning a trip to Eilat, you have to stop at this spectacular point.

The Alpaca Farm A great experience in this local town is the alpaca farm. On this farm you will feed and pet the lamas and the alpaca as well, ride on a horse, and even stay for the night in their zimmers.

Mitzpe Ramon Visitors Center: The visitors center is located on the edge of the Ramon Crater and is a gateway to the surrounding nature reserves The tour begins with the life story of the first Israeli astronaut, which sadly died on his way back from his journey Ilan Ramon, from his army service to his flight on the space shuttle Columbia. Guests then learn about the unique environment of the crater, from its geological formation to information about the desert wildlife found in the area, and all that you need to know about nearby hiking trails. A spectacular view of Ramon Crater is also available from the center’s rooftop.
