Delve into the rich history as we tour the remnants of an ancient Roman port city, marveling at the well-preserved theater, hippodrome, and the fascinating ruins of palaces, temples, and bathhouses. Our exploration unfolds as we journey further up the coast to the vibrant port city of Haifa, where the breathtaking terraced Baha’i Gardens on Mt. Carmel await, offering insights into the profound teachings of the Baha’i faith. Progressing to the northernmost point at Israel’s border with Lebanon, the tour unveils the awe-inspiring sea caves of Rosh HaNikra. Venture into the cave chambers and tunnels, where the rhythmic crash of waves against the rocks creates a mesmerizing ambiance. Heading back south, our expedition concludes with a visit to the historic Crusader city of Acre. Immerse yourself in the past as we explore the 12th-century Crusader fortress, Ottoman structures, and a former Turkish and British Mandate citadel prison, ensuring an enriching and unforgettable experience.
Day 2: Nazareth, Capernaum and Sea of Galilee
Embarking on this captivating journey, we commence with a scenic drive along the coastal road before veering towards the historic Valley of Armageddon, offering a picturesque view of Megiddo. Our route takes us past the awe-inspiring Mt. Precipice, leading us to the enchanting city of Nazareth. Here, we delve into the splendor of the Church of Annunciation and the serenity of the Church of St. Joseph. Continuing towards the renowned Sea of Galilee, our path encompasses Cana, the site where Christ performed the miraculous transformation of water into wine. The distant Mt. of Beatitudes, where the profound Sermon on the Mount unfolded, beckons our attention, and a pause in Capernaum by the shores of the Sea of Galilee enriches our exploration. At Tabgha, the Roman Catholic Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes unfolds its spiritual tapestry before us. Skirting Tiberias along the Sea of Galilee’s edge, our journey includes a moment of reflection at Yardenit, a possible baptismal site along the River Jordan where John may have baptized Jesus. On our return, the route grants us a glimpse of Mt. Tabor, the sacred site of the Transfiguration, concluding this memorable expedition through history and spirituality.
Day 3: Jerusalem Old and New
Embarking on our journey, we soak in the breathtaking panoramic views of Jerusalem from the pinnacle of Mount Scopus, a truly awe-inspiring start. Descending from the mount, our path leads us past the biblical Garden of Gethsemane, the poignant Church of All Nations, and the historic Kidron Valley, where monumental Jewish tombs stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. In the heart of the Jewish Quarter, we explore the Cardo, a main street resonating with the echoes of the Byzantine era. A poignant pause is made at the Western Wall, a sacred site where we delicately place a prayer note within the ancient stones. Our journey then follows a segment of the Via Dolorosa, leading us to the remarkable Church of the Holy Sepulchre, revealing the sites of Christ’s crucifixion and burial tomb. Following a satisfying lunch break and a stroll through the vibrant Old City bazaar, our exploration extends to new Jerusalem. Traversing the modern cityscape, our destination is the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, a poignant tribute filled with authentic artifacts, original documents, evocative photos, and video testimonials, capturing the profound stories of Holocaust survivors.
Day 4: Bethlehem, Jericho and Qasr el Yahud
Embark on a captivating Bethlehem and Jericho tour, immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of biblical history. Begin by tracing the footsteps of the Good Samaritan at the Inn, and then descend below sea level to the ancient city of Jericho. Witness the sycamore tree, reminiscent of Zacchaeus’ earnest climb for a glimpse of Jesus, and reflect on the legendary tale of Joshua’s troops encircling Jericho’s walls until they crumbled. Moving forward, the journey takes you past the Mount of Temptation and leads to Qasr al-Yahud on the Jordan River, the sacred site of Jesus’ baptism by John. Transitioning to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus over 2,000 years ago, the tour pauses at Manger Square before entering the revered Church of the Nativity. Delve into the Holy Grotto where the nativity unfolded, and explore the adjacent Church of St. Catherine with its subterranean wonders, including ancient tombs and shrines. Traverse Shepherds Field and, with hearts full of awe, return to Jerusalem, concluding a pilgrimage through time and sacred landscapes.
Day 5: Masada and the Dead Sea
Embark on an enriching journey through southern Israel as we traverse the picturesque Judean Hills and pass by the historic Inn of the Good Samaritan. As we reach sea level, a breathtaking photo opportunity unfolds, marking just the beginning of our descent below sea level towards the renowned Dead Sea. Our first captivating stop takes us to Masada, where a cable car ride transports us to the summit, revealing the ancient remnants of Herod’s palace fortress, standing for over 2,000 years. Witness remarkable structures, including palaces and a bathhouse, as the tour then guides us past the desert oasis of Ein Gedi and Qumran, the very site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The day culminates in relaxation at one of the serene Dead Sea beaches, offering the unique experience of floating effortlessly in water that is 8.6 times more saline than the ocean. Take advantage of the therapeutic Dead Sea mud for a natural skin mask and bask in the warm embrace of the glorious Dead Sea sun, ensuring an unforgettable and rejuvenating adventure.
Day 6: Jerusalem In the Footsteps of Jesus
Embarking on a journey in the sacred footsteps of Jesus on the Mount of Olives, our exploration begins with a visit to the Church of the Ascension, where Christ ascended to heaven, followed by the nearby Church of the Pater Noster, the very site where Christ imparted the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples. Delving into the poignant moments of Jesus’s life, we witness the solemnity of Dominus Flevit, where he gazed upon Jerusalem and wept, foreseeing its impending destruction. Our pilgrimage continues to the Church of all Nations and the adjoining Garden of Gethsemane, the poignant setting of Jesus’s arrest on the eve of his crucifixion. We then behold the historic Pools of Bethesda before venturing into the Old City, pausing to marvel at the Church of Saint Anne and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. Our odyssey unfolds further as we tread the path of the Via Dolorosa, reaching the 3rd Station of the Cross, where Jesus, burdened by his cross, journeyed toward Calvary for his crucifixion. It’s important to note that this profound and unforgettable tour covers over 5 miles in the hilly expanse of the city, a terrain that may pose challenges for those with difficulty walking long distances.
