Our expedition carries us to Tabgha, where the Roman Catholic Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes awaits our exploration. As we journey along the edge of the Sea of Galilee, catching glimpses of Tiberias, our pilgrimage halts at Yardenit, a potential baptismal site along the River Jordan, resonating with the echoes of John baptizing Jesus. On our homeward path, we traverse the significant Mt. Tabor, the sacred site of the Transfiguration, concluding this enriching adventure through the tapestry of historical and spiritual landmarks.
Day 3: Caesarea, Acre and Rosh Hanikra
Embark on a captivating journey through the coastal cities of Israel, commencing our adventure by heading north of Tel Aviv to our first destination, Caesarea. Explore the remnants of an ancient Roman port city, marveling at the well-preserved theater, hippodrome, and the atmospheric ruins of palaces, temples, and bathhouses. Our journey continues northward along the picturesque coastline, leading us to the vibrant port city of Haifa. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the terraced Baha’i Gardens on Mt. Carmel, while gaining insights into the rich history of the Baha’i faith. Extending our exploration to the very border with Lebanon, the tour unfolds the wonders of the sea caves of Rosh HaNikra, inviting you to venture into the mesmerizing chambers and tunnels where waves crash against the rocks. As we journey southward once more, our next stop is the historic Crusader city of Acre. Traverse the well-preserved Crusader fortress from the 12th century, witness the architectural marvels of the Ottoman era, and explore a former Turkish and British Mandate citadel prison, unveiling layers of history in each step of our memorable tour.
Day 4: Bethlehem, Jericho and Qasr el Yahud
Embark on an enriching Bethlehem and Jericho tour, tracing the footsteps of history. Journey past the Inn of the Good Samaritan and descend below sea level to the time-honored city of Jericho. In Jericho, marvel at the sycamore tree, famously climbed by Zacchaeus in his quest for a clearer view of Jesus. Relive the biblical narrative of Joshua’s triumphant march around the city walls until their majestic fall. The expedition then ventures from Jericho, passing the Mount of Temptation and progressing to Qasr al-Yahud on the Jordan River, the sacred site where John baptized Jesus. The tour culminates in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus more than 2,000 years ago. Explore Manger Square and step inside the Church of the Nativity, where the Holy Grotto cradles the nativity scene. Visit the neighboring Church of St. Catherine with its subterranean caves housing ancient tombs and shrines. The journey continues through Shepherds Field before returning to Jerusalem, weaving together a tapestry of historical significance and spiritual exploration.
Day 5: Jerusalem Old and New
We begin our journey by soaking in the breathtaking panoramic views of Jerusalem from the pinnacle of Mount Scopus. Descending from the mount, we pass by the biblical Garden of Gethsemane, the solemn Church of All Nations, and the Kidron Valley, home to monumental Jewish tombs. Our exploration continues in the Jewish Quarter, where the ancient Cardo, a Byzantine-era main street, unfolds before us. Pausing at the revered Western Wall, we engage in a sacred tradition, placing a prayer note between the ancient stones of this historic wall. Following a segment of the Via Dolorosa, we arrive at the magnificent Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the poignant sites of Christ’s crucifixion and burial tomb come to life. After a refreshing lunch break and a stroll through the vibrant Old City bazaar, our journey takes us to the modernity of new Jerusalem. Cruising through the contemporary cityscape, we reach the impactful Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, where authentic artifacts, original documents, compelling photos, and video testimonials of Holocaust survivors weave together a powerful narrative.
Day 6: Jerusalem In the Footsteps of Jesus
Embarking on a profound journey, we tread in the sacred footsteps of Jesus upon the Mount of Olives, exploring the revered sites of the Church of the Ascension, where Christ ascended to heaven, and the nearby Church of the Pater Noster, resonating with the echoes of the Lord’s Prayer imparted by Jesus to his disciples. Gazing upon the poignant Dominus Flevit, we stand where Jesus beheld Jerusalem and wept, foreseeing its impending fate. Our pilgrimage extends to the Church of All Nations and the adjoining Garden of Gethsemane, the poignant grounds where Jesus faced his arrest on the eve of his crucifixion. A glimpse of the Pools of Bethesda precedes our entrance into the Old City, where we pause at the venerable Church of Saint Anne and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. The odyssey then leads us to the 3rd Station of the Cross on Via Dolorosa, retracing the path Jesus traversed while bearing his cross towards the momentous crucifixion on Calvary. It’s essential to note that this indelible tour encompasses over 5 miles in a hilly urban terrain, a consideration for those with potential challenges in walking extended distances.
Day 7: Masada and the Dead Sea
Embarking on a journey through southern Israel, our tour winds its way through the picturesque Judean Hills, offering breathtaking views as we pass by the historic Inn of the Good Samaritan. Pausing at sea level provides the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable photo opportunity, and as we continue our descent below sea level, the mesmerizing Dead Sea unfolds before us. Our first destination is Masada, where a cable car ride elevates us to the summit plateau, revealing the ancient remnants of Herod’s remarkable palace fortress, standing for 2,055 years. The tour then meanders past the desert oasis of Ein Gedi and the significant site of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The remainder of the day is dedicated to relaxation on the serene beaches of the Dead Sea. Here, you can experience the unique buoyancy of the water, which is 8.6 times more
